  I download SQL Server 2008 SP2 and during my installations got an error msg of:

  There are no SQL Server instance or share features that can be updated on this computer.

  I also notice there is GDR 1617 for SQL R2 ( KB2494088 ) there . but i am not sure what it is and who install it !

  Can someone help and advice.

  you sure you went for installation ,seems like you clicked on Edition upgrade.
