Full Text Host (fdhost.exe) skyrocketing virtual memory leak

  • Greetings,

I have a medical client who recently had their EMR database application upgraded. No hardware, windows, or SQL changes. Immediately after the upgrade, the process FDHOST.EXE started gobbling up virtual memory until the server cratered, being out of memory. Rebooted and as expected it ran fine for an hour or so but same problem. The EMR software guys are banging their heads together about it but so far no one has a clue what's going on. I've increased the pagefile all the way up to 384Gig which gives up about 3 hours of run time.

If I end the FDHOST.EXE task, all of the used memory is freed up and the march to 384gig starts over as soon as it's restarted (presumably by the Full Text Launcher Service)

    Server 2008R2

    SQL 2008 R2 with SP3

16 Gig server RAM (Yeah I know, it's an old server)

384Gig pagefile (We had it at 24Gig before I blew it up to keep alive longer)

FDHost keeps eating memory at about 50Meg/second

I've read the KB article on checking permissions on the account that's logging the services on, but nothing seems to work.

What info can I provide to help anyone lend some advice?

    Thanks,

    Mark
