SQL Server SP upgrade

  • SQL Server SP1 keeps coming up in my optional Windows Updates.

    SELECT @@VERSION returns:

    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP3) - 10.50.6220.0 (X64) Mar 19 2015 12:32:14 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (Hypervisor)

So should I really install SP1? If not, why does Windows keep recommending it?

  • Not if you're already on service pack 3, no. Are you sure it's not referring to a Windows service pack? Do you have any other instances on the same server?

    John

  • or do you have any other components within the instance that are not at SP1, such as SSRS?

If there is nothing for the SP to upgrade, it will do nothing.
