Trying to connect to Reporting Services in SSMS as administrator?!

  • I am a sysadmin on the reporting services server. I am in the server's administrator group.

I can log into the database engine via SSMS. I log in as a sysadmin and can make changes.

When I log into reportings services via SSMS, I can't make any changes. I can't add a new role or add someone to a current role.

Has anyone seen this behavior in SQL Server 2012?

    Thanks.

Things will work out.  Get back up, change some parameters and recode.

  • is the Reporting Services you are connecting to the same version as your SSMS client? I have trouble when connecting from higher to lower versions.

i get errors connecting to Reporting Services 2008R2 when i connect with SSMS 2012; as a result, i made sure i have three versions of SSMS (2008R2/2012/2014) just because of that headache

maybe you lose permissions when going from lower versions to higher versions?

  • I am on the reporting services server. The database engine and the reporting services are installed on the same server.

They are both SQL Server 2012. SSMS to database engine recognizes me as sysadmin.

Connecting to reporting services, I can't add things. Things are dimmed out.

    Thanks.

  • I seem to remember another thread that said they needed to right click the SSMS shortcut and click 'run as administrator' to be able to do some other things, like stopping and starting sevices. Maybe thats the same issue?

  • Yes, I thought of that also.

I did a right click and ran as administrator.

I tried to change the Windows authentication to sql server login to use 'sa'. But it only gives me Windows, Basic or form authentication.

I am really not sure what is going on here?

  • I just noticed that the execution account and the service account have the same account. Whoever installed this used the same account for both.

I may try to change the service account to my domain account.

    Thanks.
