Hi,
can anyone suggest how to take backup
my scenario is sunday 8pm full backup,daily 8 pm diff backup,for every 1 hr transaction log backup.
one developer wants the data upto thruday 3:38 pm.and the database still in active mode.
how can I take the backup to thrusday 3:38 pm.
can anyone suggest

If I understand you correctly, you want a PIT restore to Thursday 15:38:
1) Restore Sunday Full Backup (no recovery)
2) Restore Wednesday Differential (no recovery)
3) Restore the transaction log backups up to the PIT.

You'll restore the logs using STOPAT. This is a little older, but it's still a good article on how to do a point in time restore[/url]. I have an article on it here[/url].

After you get your immediate requirements fulfilled, I'd recommend that you spend time practicing some restores. This should not be a one-time event. You should be able to do a full or PIT restore with confidence. In this case, having confidence means two things:
1. You've done it before and you aren't looking up how to do it when you need it.
2. You know your backups are good because you've tested them by doing periodic restoration of random databases.
Instead of thinking of your backups as the goal, think of being able to restore from backup as the goal.
