Help please - "the log file for database tempdb is full"

  • Hello,

I am using SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager.

I have been trying to figure this out all day - When trying to execute a simple SQL query I received the above error.

I have read that it's dangerous to try to shrink the database or files so I have refrained from doing that.

I went into the database properties and set the initial size of the .LDF file to 512MB with unrestricted growth by 1MB. The log file for tempdb is now 524,288 KB and the .mdf file is 84,864 KB.

Thankfully, the error disappeared, but now I am receiving Timeout error when trying to run a simple query. I have stopped and started the MSSQLSERVER service and rebooted the server twice, but SQL is still running slowly and I cant work out why - there is no clue in the event logs!

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Caroline
