We have a lot of SSRS email subscriptions with attached Excel reports at our company, and management have requested I identify whether users are actually opening the spreadsheet attachments they're receiving, and remove those that are no longer being accessed.
Is there any way of embedding references to an external file hosted on our webserver, so when a user accesses the Excel file the remote file is accessed, where the webserver has request logging, identifying which employees opened which report?
My own attempts at doing this haven't worked, the SSRS XLS renderer doesn't support macros and embeds any linked images at render-time.
