I'm new to the DW world but am about to start on a project and am looking for some good strategies/solutions to follow.
I really don't have much information on the databases or they're architecture at this point in time but I do know they wish to follow the CQRS methodology (Command and Query Responsibility Segregation)
My background: Former .Net developer/now full time DBA
I know this is an incredibly vague post - but does anyone have any suggestions? Or can recommend a decent strategy based upon a prior successful implementation?

I would start with Agile Data Warehouse Design by Lawrence Corr and Jim Stagnitto.
The focus of the book is very much on workingwith the end users and understanding what they WANT from the database and how to approach the negotiations as to what gets built WHEN. The second half of the book focuses on design patterns and the aggravation they can cause if they are not considered properly in the beginning. It is application agnostic to a certain extent but does assume that your databse is SQL compliant but doesn't really care if it is Oracle, SQL or MySQL.
It uses a development and design process called BEAM* (Business and Event Anaysis and Modelling)
It is really good as a primer into the world of OLAP, especially if you come from OLTP and is a good reference guide to formulate argurments as to WHY the design dreamt up by the BAs is not a good idea 🙂
DW design is an architecture or developer role and not a DBA responsbility :hehe:
