Very urgent issue please help

  • I have installed sqlserver 2008R2 with cluster but I could not find my virtual name in management studio .. clicked on browse - but could not find default instance name ... but when I click on network name it is there and I m able to connect to my database.but my database is not instance is not locally found. Here the issue is when I install service pack on any node is not able to find the instance.

    Windows 2008

Sqlserver 2008 standard version with active passive node

  • When you RDP to one of the cluster hosts and run Failover Cluster Manager, then click SQL Server (InstanceName), the virtual SQL Server name should be displayed under "Name:" along with the virtual IP address. You should be able to connect to it via that name\InstanceName in SMSS.

If you start SQL Configuration Manager on the server, you should also see the instance name under SQL Server Services. Do you see it there?

What is the exact error message you get when running the service pack? Check the Windows application log and make sure you run the service pack setup as administrator (right click administrator).
