I have a backup plan that performs full backups of several databases on Monday and Wednesday. Differential backups on other workdays, and logs throughout each day, etc. Each database's backup is appended to the same file (one for each database) for each week. At the end of each week, the files are moved down a succession of folders and a new backup file is started for each database on Monday
The issue is that when I look at the back-up files in the Restore Database dialogue in SSMS 2012, I can only see the back-up history up to the most recent full backup (on Thursday, I can only see the full backup from Wednesday morning, one differential, and the transaction log backups). If I open the same .bak file with SSMS 2008R2, I can see all back-ups back through Monday. Is anyone aware of a known issue that might cause this, or of a work-around, or something I might be missing?
Thanks.

To see the other backups - click on the Timeline button to select the date range.
Note: I would highly recommend that you change your strategy. Using a single file to contain multiple backups and types of backups is - in my opinion - very risky. If something happens to that one file and you needed to restore your system, you could lose more than a weeks data.
I would recommend that you have each file date stamped and have an individual file for each backup.
