When we start our sql server then given below window comes up asking for the "server type" and "server name". On "Server Type" field there are four other options (services) too. what does there need if we connect with each and every type as depicted below:

It requires that the particular service you have selected is running in the server name you enter and that your windows account has the necessary rights to be able to connect to the service running on the server.

What is the difference between all these four services and how can I connect with all these four. When I select database engine service, it simply connects and with others it shows error that couldn't connect. Please describe reason.

Thanks

I would start with a google search on the topics of SSAS, SSIS and SSRS. They are the three other services you see, they all do different things which are far to complicated to go into detail on the forum.

You can always use the stairways section on the right also for a good starting point on all of the topics as well.

If the others don't connect then that particular service is either
A. Not installed on the server you have selected
B. You don't have permission to connect to the service on that particular server
C. The service isn't running on the server you have selected.
