SQL is not able to start after service acct changed

  • Hi,

Have a SQL 2005 Instance that fails to start with error below.....I had to change the service acct..

"SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with service specific error 5(0x5)"

However, SQL Browser service & SQL Full text search is running fine with new service acct...

Anybody seen this before/have any ideas what may be causing it. Not much on Google, but still looking!

From SQL error log, I see the below...

  • I found this solutions and tried it, but still didn't work. This looks like exactly the error as I have.

  • Just curious, how did you change the service account?

  • Through sql config mgr. I see the new accts reflected...and 2(SQL Browser & Full text search) out of the 4 services running fine with new acct.

  • Do the errors in the windows event logs provide more information?
