Error: The Project could not be deployed to 'localhost'

  • Hi

I get an error when I'm trying to deploy my Project. I get this message:

"The Project could not be deployed to 'localhost' server because of the following connection problems: A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. To verify or update the name of the target server, right-click on the project in the Solution Explorer. . . "

My server is running, and my .ds it is also fine, Test connection succeeded also. I don't know what seems to be a problem. please help.

  • Is your service installed as an instance, or the default instance?

    Steve.

  • Hi Steve

I don't understand what do you mean by that. Service being installed as an instance or the default instance.

I installed BIDS 2008 R2. anything further than that, I'm not clued up.

What are you trying to deploy? SSIS or SSAS?

  • SSAS

    SSAS

OK, did you install SSAS on the computer?

If yes, did you install it under the default instance, or did you use a named instance?

You need to install the SSAS service itself as well.

You only installed the development tools, not the actual server.

  • Can you provide me with the link to download SSAS, I have googled it and downloaded what I believed to be it, but I still get the same error. I followed this link here: http://www.idevelopment.info/data/SQLServer/DBA_tips/Installation/INSTALL_10.shtml

so can you maybe help me with the link to SSAS Server.

  • Those are samples.

You install SSAS with the SQL Server installation media.

Just like you installed SQL Server itself. It's the same set-up, just a different checkbox.

  • Well in that case, Installation that I have doesn't have SSAS as a Check Box. All I have is

    Database Engine Services

    - SQL Server Replication

    - Full-Text Search

    Reporting Services

    Shared Features

    - BIDS

    - Management Tools - Basic

    - SQL Client Connection SDK

    - Microsoft Sync Framework

    This SQL Server 2008 R2

SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Advanced Services just includes SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), not SSAS

  • What version of SQL Server do you have? Express?

In attachment is a screenshot of a 2012 installation (which is pretty much the same as for SQL Server 2008R2).

Well, if you cannot install SSAS, it is pretty obvious you cannot deploy it to a server.

Try to get the development edition of SQL Server, it has the same features as Enterprise.
