SQL SERVER 2008 ENTERPRISE and SQL SERVER 2014 ENTERPRISE

  • Hi All,

Can we install SQL SERVER 2008 ENTERPRISE and SQL SERVER 2014 ENTERPRISE on the same machine?

I have tried installing the same on our QA ENV however the SQL 2014 gave errors at the end of the setup. The errors included everything for eg database engine service, sql server replication failed.

Plz help, we have to do this ASAP

    Regards,

  • Yep, although at least one of them will need to be a named instance rather than a default one.

I wouldn't have thought the installer would allow you to proceed if you tried to install a second default instance.

If you could post the errors you've received we might be able to help identify the issue.

    Thanks

  • yes, we already have four instance of sql 2008 enterprise on it and we were installing fifth one (sql 2014 enterprise) with the named instance not the default instance..

hope this helps, I am unable to copy and paste the errors as the server is not allowing me to do so

  • Thanks for the reply, the issue was due to network authority login which we used for sql service and sql agent service during the installation.

we changed it to a local admin from sql configuration manager and it worked..

    :-):-):-):-):-):-):-)

  • No problem, good to hear it's sorted 🙂
