Hello experts,
I want to run the Microsoft SQL Server Best Practices Analyzer remotely so that I don't have to install it on each server. I open the Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer 2.0 and click "Connect to Another Computer." I enter in the remote server name and (whether or not I add different credentials) I get this error:
Connecting to remote server failed with the following error
message : The client cannot connect to the destination specified in
the request. Verify that the service on the destination is running
and is accepting requests. Consult the logs and documentation for
the WS-Management service running on the destination, most
commonly IIS or WinRM. If the destination is the WinRM service,
run the following command on the destination to analyze and
configure the WinRM service: "winrm quickconfig". For more
information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.
I can go ahead and follow these steps on each server, but I just want to know ahead of time - is this really the only way to remotely scan SQL Servers for best practices? And is this step OK for the server, or is it invasive and has to be undone after I finish the scan?
