Hi All,
I’ve been having a terrible time trying to get Reporting Services to configure. It was working previously and after a week of googling, nothing worked. So I did the dramatic thing and uninstalled it. I’ve then reinstalled it fine but when I go to configure it and seems fine but the web page comes up with the message below.
There are no items in Home. Click Help for more information about this page.
Is this normal?
It’s SQL2008 R2 Enterprise on Server 2008.

If you've un-installed it then re-installed it, you'll have to re-upload all the reports because you're effectively starting from scratch.

On two occasions I have been asked, "Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?" ... I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

The this is when I first had RS working the over application pointed to the reports (SCCM) and I didn't have the reports in RS itself. So I uploaded one to test and I now get the error below.

The report server cannot process the report or shared dataset. The shared data source 'AutoGen__5C6358F2_4BB6_4a1b_A16E_8D96795D8602_' for the report server or SharePoint site is not valid. Browse to the server or site and select a shared data source. (rsInvalidDataSourceReference)

Any help would be fantastic.

Have you recreated your datasources as they were before?

Yep, and tested the connection successfully. Sorry to be a pain, I'm a newbie to Reporting services.

I've also played around with removing that auto number and reset to point at the datasource manually and I now get this error.

The DefaultValue expression for the report parameter ‘UserTokenSIDs’ contains an error: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. (rsRuntimeErrorInExpression)

To be honest I'm not the most experienced myself, I've just recently had to configure a couple of new instances of SSRS which is a similar kind of thing.

One thing I did notice when I was getting that error was: if I opened the report in Report Builder and changed the data source, if I refreshed the report before I ran it then it would use the new data source.

You should also create the datasets that the reports were using previously, not just data sources. Create a new dataset with same name as referred in the actual report (pointing to new datasource) with that parameter UserTokenSIDs.

Report is based on a Dataset. Dataset is basically a query that fetches data to be displayed in the report. Dataset uses a datasource to run it's query on. Datasets also contain parameters that are used in the reports for user input.

Data sets and Datasources are of 2 types. Shared and Embedded.

Shared ones are stored on the RS and are displayed in the Report Manger.

Embedded ones are stored in the individual reports.

So you need to need the know definitions (or queries used in ) of these datasets.

First check if you have any backups of the old Report Server database. If you have one, try to do a restore to get back the lost items.
