Hanging application mmc.exe ...

  • Error going into Windows Application Event Log:  Hanging application mmc.exe, version 5.2.3790.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x0000000.

    Any ideas?

Can anyone help get this rock off me

Thanks...comming to you as one of the few employeed in ohio

  • This doesn't sound good. I tried doing a Google search on

    "hang module hungapp" mmc

and still not getting very far. The evidence seems to implicate hardware and/or some computer apps.

But even if you accept this/these, other than ensuring that all the latest drivers are installed, the advice on solving the problem is a little sparse.

    Best of luck.

If you haven't even tried to resolve your issue, please don't expect the hard-working volunteers here to waste their time providing links to answers which you could easily have found yourself.

  • Have you tried to connect to the server remotely?

Right click 'My Computer' -> Manage-> Right Click 'Computer Management' -> 'Connect to Remote Computer'

Doing this will indicate if your event viewer plugin is corrupt. If you are able to view the remote computers eventlog then it is the eventvwr.msc file that is corrupt on the server.

If you are still experiancing problems, then it can be 1 of 3 things.

    1. Your server needs a reboot because the application event file is locked.

    2. The event log is full and unable to be opened, reboot and see if you are able to access the event log. I think there is a command line that can be run to increase the size of the event log

    3. The event log is corrupt...

Please post back if you manage to solve this.

  • My systems administrator cleared and saved the event logs.   Since then the problem has not reoccured.

Is there a DTS Package setup option that may have caused logs to fillup?

By The Way ... Thanks for your help

  • Get the sys admin to increase the event log size... from (Default is 512K) to .... 2 MB and then let him set the event log to be overwriten as needed.

This should stop it from happening in future.

  • Hi guys, same problem here, but solved for now :w00t:

So if i open some event and than click OK, event viewer hangs. Closing leads to:

    szAppName: mmc.exe

    szAppVer: 5.2.3790.4136

    szModName: hungapp

But if i open event viewer, than i go to task manager and set "Processor Affinity" for mmc.exe just for one core, then i can freely open events, than click ok and event viewer is still alive 😀 (does not freeze!!)

My CPU: Quad core Q9550 and i also have all the updates from MS update.

Someone with hyperthreading maybe involved too!
