Hi,
when setup transactional replication with updatable subscription we can see the linked servers created automatically. What is the role of each linked servers in replication.

The replication subsystem uses Linked Servers to communicate between Publishers and Subscribers.

All types of replication subscriptions. When you run some of the replication configuration stored procedures these Linked Servers are used to communicate configuration changes between instances.

Sorry, I wish I had a more targeted referral for you but Updatable Subscriptions are not something I have specifically worked with in a production setting so the best I can do is refer you to Books Online and your favorite search engine.
