Error 14294 - Can't create Publication

  • When running the create publication wizard, I get:

"Error 14294 - Supply either @Job_id or @Job_Name to identify the job"

I had pubs & subs set up, but things were erroring, so I tried deleting everything and wanted to start from scratch, but the last step in the wizard gets me stuck.

Is it ok to clear the tables in the Distribution database that have info from earlier attempts at setting things up ?

Is there a way to delete the distribution database & really start from scratch ?

  • First about the error message. I've seen this one once before at a customer site and it turned out that they had been messing around with their master database.I don't say you did, but you might wanna check. What they actually did was copying the master database from an old server over the master DB of the new server, without realizing that they were on different service packs. Especially SP3 contains a lot of fixes and changes (like new SP's) for merge replication. After trying to fix it manually for almost a day I told them to reinstall the SQL Server

The short answer would be yes, but it's not advisable.

Again yes, and it's save. Just run the Disable publishing wizard and everything will get cleaned up.

    Hope this helps
