Has anyone had any experience of upgrading to the developer edition? I have tried but it will not recognise the key.
Doing a standalone installation to a new instance will recognise the key.
My concern is to preserve the database already constructed so far.
Any hints gratefully received,

I'm not sure why you are not able to do an inplace upgrade. But failing every thing else, you can always just backup the database and restore it or detatch/attach the database files on the new instance.

I just did this last week but do not remember if it was Eval to Enterprise or Eval to Dev Edition. I do remember I used the Edition Upgrade feature of the installation which is different from the regular upgrade/install feature.

Thanks for the response - I managed to lose this thread and reposted in 2012!
I ended up doing as Benjamin.Reyes suggested and detach/attach. I am now killing off the old instances.

Happy you got it sorted. For those onlookers that do not wish to do an uninstall & reinstall here is the info on how to do an Edition Upgrade:

There is a great feature from SQL Server 2012 on wards which allowed us to upgrade Evaluation edition to any paid version of SQL Server 2012.
