The operating system returned the error '3(The system cannot find the path specified.)' while attempting 'DeleteFile' on

  • Hi,

I have configured logshipping in standby mode and used the shared path to copy the log backup files Z:\Logshipping_Backups.

But, I'm getting the below error frequently in event viewer Application log . Here, the log shipping is working fine even though, the error is occurring.

    Log Name: Application

    Source: MSSQL$INS1

    Date: 6/15/2011 6:00:13 AM

    Event ID: 3634

    Task Category: Backup

    Level: Error

    Keywords: Classic

    User: abc\mssqlsrv

    Computer: abc.com

    Description:

The operating system returned the error '3(The system cannot find the path specified.)' while attempting 'DeleteFile' on 'Z:\Backups\RestoreCheckpointDB9.CKP'.

The error reporting the path as Z:\Backups but I'm copying the log backup files to Z:\Logshipping_Backups.

    Please advice

  • Have you verified the directory exists and permissions are there?

Yes. The path Z:\Backups does not exist.

The path that exist is Z:\Logshipping_Backups (the path mentioned for copying the log backup files in Logshipping wizard) and the sql service account has read/write rights to the share Z:\Logshipping_Backups

    Thanks

  • You may want to script out the logshipping from that wizard and confirm that the paths in the script.

  • At some point that directory existed and may have been defined as the default location for backups.

create the directory 'Z:\Backups and give SQL permissions to it, the message should go

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  • It definitely sounds like someone renamed a folder and didn't bother to update the log shipping job.
