Sql Server 2005 Licensing question

  • Hi all,

    We have Sql 2005 32 bit (both ent & std edition). We going to purchase Sql 2005 64 bit. Please can someone advise whether the licensing cost for 64 bit is higher than a 32 bit.

    If so, can someone pls provide the approx cost info for sql server 2005 license (when using per processor licensing model)

    Thanks a lot.

  • As far as I know price is same for 32 bit and 64 bit but better check with the vendor.

  • The price depends on the country you are from but as a rough idea the US prices are here;

    http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/pricing.aspx"> http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/pricing.aspx

    I would be tempted to buy a 2008 license instead of a 2005 though..

  • There is no difference in pricing between 32 and 64 bit, only between different editions of SQL Server.

    I believe you can't buy SQL 2005 license anymore. All licenses purchased now are 2008, but, you can "downgrade" the license and use it for a SQL 2005 installation, at least that is what we have been doing for quite some time now trough our purchasing channel.
