Just passed the 70-450 exam; I used the Microsoft Administrator's Pocket Consultant for SQL Server 2008 and BOL to prepare for the exam.

Thanks! Correct, passing the 70-450 earns you MCITP: Database Administrator 2008. This exam certainly had some tougher questions. I've taken a dozen or so MS exams over the years; I think my first was MCSE on NT4 🙂 I'm preparing for the 70-433 exam now and hoping to complete the MCITP: Database Developer 2008 track by the Spring.

Searching for the exam number in the Amazon's book section will usually return most of the books intended to be used for that exam. You could try the same thing with other book sellers, including Microsoft Press.

For clarification just taking the 70-450 does not get you the MCITP DBA 2008 certification. You can take it, but your transcripts with Microsoft are not going to show it until you pass the 70-432 exam. It shows that as the prerequisite here.

The only book I have come across that is a decent read that covers both 70-432 and 70-450 is Tom Carpenter "SQL Server 2008 Administration - Real World Skills for MCITP Certification and Beyond". He pushes some company he created a good bit in the first part of the book and that annoyed me a little but overall it has some good information in it.
