SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition - Licensing

  • Hi all,

I have a question - can SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition be used as a test environment for developing/testing applications. According to MS documentation the Developer is licensed for a single developer only. But in my case multiple developers will be accessing the test server and carrying out development activities. Can someone pls advise whether a developer edition would suffice for my requirement or should I go for a Standard/Ent endition even for development purpose?

  • i believe by single developer, it is single installation. they do not want you to buy one copy and install it on 20 developers machines. 20 installations would require 20 licensed copies.

once you have installed your copy on a single machine, multiple people are allowed to connect and test for your testing/QA. that's not a problem.
