perfmon

  • Hi,

A simple question: does running perfmon 24x7 on database servers (Win2k3/SQL2k5) slow down the server over time?

Due to pagging, virtual memory usage, memory being chewed up and not freed properly... or whatever else.

I've been told performance monitor has been a part of Windows core files since WinNT so it should be ok.

This sounds good, and I would accept this but I would prefer to have numbers to prove this.

    Thanks

  • You sure can run it 24x7. You do need to be judicious in the number of counters you collect and the frequency of the collection becuase it is possible to have perfmon place a load on the system.
