Linking sql server 2008 with Oracle 11g

  • Friends and colleagues

My company is busy procuring another Unisys ES7000 server as our BI Front end solution with sql server 2008 as a slave to Oracle. (HUGE SPECS)

The server will have MS 2008 SERVER 64 bit (titanium) with SQL Server 2008.

We have a legacy DATAWAREHOUSE 30 terra (clustered) so about 15 terra in Oracle.

We do not want to get rid of Oracle YET. Therefore the data will reside in oracle and my tests have shown that the OLEDB providers are too slow for queries from SQL Server to the Oracle Database. (linked servers / openqueries) We do not want to duplicate the data in Oracle and SQL Server by copying Oracle to SQL at night) $$$$ I have not yet tested providers from oracle 11g to SQL Server 2008 as we are still busy upgrading both Oracle and SQL Server in our test enviroments.

Has anybody done any implementationn or R&D between Oracle 11g and SQL Server 2008 where the facts and dimensions have to still reside in Oracle?

My R&D has to be as short as possible as my Company is outsourcing many aspects of our business.

Here is my dilema in short:-

    1) I do not want to duplicate the Oracle datawarehouse in SQL SERVER.

    2) I want to query from a dot.net front end to SQL Server that sources data from some huge Oracle Tables.

    3) The Oracle.net provider is too slow , the MS Oracle provider is too slow. (linked servers)

The bottom line is HAVE Microsoft and or Oracle created a dataconnect driver between the two systems 11g and sql server 2008 , that is "usable for speed"???

I would really appreciate a MS MVP to give me he/her opinion.

    Thank you my collegues!

    Andy.
