Question

  • We have SQL 2000 production databases, we are moving our data center in a few months. Can you please advice what we should consider as far as databases are concerned. Thanks for your responses!!

  • Move them as well.

Seriously I am not sure what you are really asking. Do you want to know if you should upgrade from SQL 2000? What you should do for disaster recovery?

You need to provide a little more information in order to get a real answer.

  • I am sorry for not being clear. I need to know about disaster recovery. Actually we have clustered servers for all our applications. Our networking team is taking care of the move, I am trying to find out is there any things I need to take care on the databases side. Thanks!

  • Only database backups as DBAs. Networking team will take care network accesses. Windows administration team will take care of the stuff on OS level.

  • It's an extremely general question. What about disaster recovery are you worried about?

You need to think about what is bothering you and what you've planned for and then ask specific questions about the things that concern you. If someone takes down the servers, moves them to a new location and brings them up, everything could be fine or nothing could work. There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of things that could be wrong.
