This morning went to use db sql express on vista home pc. ms access front end can't find it. see that mssql$sqlexpress service won't start - error 3 system cannot find the path specified.
Also if I look at c:\program files\microsoft sql server\mssql.1\mssql\data I see the normal dbs of master, model, msdbdata, mssqlsystemresource, tempdb, but don't see the one i use PCS.
I am not sure what is missing that keeps it from at least allowing me to connect to pc3\sqlexpress PC3 is the computer I am doing all this from.
I did a backup a couple of days ago - but without the server running I won't be able to restore.

I just found that the binn folder was missing from the mssql.1\mssql folder, but there was one in the sub folder for backup which I copied back one level higher, now it seems I connect to the server and open a table and see records 196,056 in one table and 93,000 in another. I need to get the automated backup working properly, I am sweating too much.
