I try to get things in writing but is usually fails as our senior management tend to respond to an email a few hours later by walking into the office when you are concentrating on something else. By the time your brains syncs you have the answer but no paper trail...

The cartoon reminded me of an event over 25 years ago. The company I worked for them had employed a Computer Science graduate who gave the impression he =knew everything about everything to do with programming/databases/networking/etc. This made him the blue eyed boy. I started to have my doubts when he wrote a piece of software, in C, to enquire a database as t took three minutes to get a response. It turned out he was unfamiliar with indexing! Anyway he survived that but a few years later he went to a client's site to do some changes on their database. It turned out his knowledge of Boolean was weak and he deleted all entries in one table. Although the client's database was backed up on a nightly basis they no longer trusted him and basically escorted him off site. I then had to race to site and install the backup watched by a then very nervous client. Everything turned out fine but it was mid-night when finished. However the client did buy me a very expensive lunch some weeks later.
