• A DBA is a person people come to first to fix a problem with a slow system.

As that DBA is usually redirect them to the Network or Desktop Team.

My actual position is "Technical Analyst", I do everything that anybody else does not want to do, which is make things run smothely, that includes preventing rouge Developers and Users messing around with databases.

The term "Technical Analyst" was a workaround because our mother company did not allow us to have anyone hold a DBA position which was restricted to the "better society" which was in Germany.

In my previous job my manager constantly reminded me he only needs 10% of a DBA, his priority is on the remaning 90%. That is probably why "DBA" is not so common knowledge.
