    That I agree with.

    Where I work now, we have a dedicated DevOps team who performs functions like application configuration and support, deployments, automation tooling, etc. I would say that even going back 20 years to my first IT job, I've always performed tasks that are out of the box in addition to my regular role as a developer or DBA. I can do tasks that would fall under the category of DevOps, but I've never operated at the same level of proficiency as someone who is properly trained and supervised in the role. For example, I'm so glad I'm not the go to guy for IIS issues anymore. That's something one has to work with on a regular basis to really know what one is doing with any degree confidence.
