    I was able to solve the issue with saving SSIS packages through the 2016 Data Import Task Wizard. During installation, under the Feature Selection part, one of the option's is Integration Services. I installed on my workstation where I have SSMS and SQL Data Tools already installed. Now, the wizard offers the package save option. Not sure why this is required as a separate selection now, when previous versions did not.
