Granting user access/ and SOAP API in Reporting Service

  • The informations are bombarding. When I find about it under Reporting Service Manager, it explains about SOAP and WSDL things.

I am relatively new to the whole SSRS. I was learning about it and I was just able to design the RDL files at this point now. I have no much idea about connecting Report Server especially giving the user access. At this moment, I was able to run report server locally and able to access those rdl files from that report server browser with my builtin-administrator account. What I need to learn next, is that how to get access from other machine to this report server as another user, who can only view and print. I am trying to add user to system role and item role. But I am getting rsUnknownUserName Error either setting new user/group in both system-role and item-role.

There are two main things that confuse me, that setting start point and end point using SOAP and WSDL method is really need to be done at this point? If not when it needs to be used in what kind of scenario? As my task for now is to gain access to my report server by another user from another machine, it will be solved just by granting access to the user?

Kindly give me some advice explanations and references.

  • Hi Newbi,

At this stage i would recommend doing some self research, there's plenty of resources available, rather than having someone from the community guide you through the majority of steps. You'll learn more than way. Just make sure that if you're making configuration changes you have a back up, so that if you break anything you can restore back to where you were.

Doing a simple Google will probably provide you with almost all the resources you need.

    Thom~

Excuse my typos and sometimes awful grammar. My fingers work faster than my brain does.
