I was looking for any advice as to how I could get the most out of this event and future ones in terms of technical information exchange
Forgive me for being so cliche but, go early and stay late. Here in Chicago theres always a few people there at least an hour early and people staying after to chat.
And if they go out afterwards and you're comfortable, go out with them. It'll help you get to know some people a little more. You can meet some really interesting people at these things.
