Documentation and Standards

    I'm looking to put together some good, clear documentation on standards and procedures used in our organization and was hoping that people may have some tips on this? We have a number of documents at the moment, though there is not much consistency around the style of them and they're of varying degrees of quality.

    One of the main objectives for me in this is to have a simple document I can present to people internally when they're requesting a new SQL Server so that I can present them with the options around the installation and considerations in this. Also to create good documentation around procedures for people who are less familiar than I am with general admin tasks.

    Does anyone have a particular method they use for this that they would recommend? I'm not sure of the best way to approach it or what level of detail to go into really. I've had a look online but can't find much in the way of recommendations.
