    Hi DBAs,

We have a SQL 2008 Instance existing on active/passive cluster with 2 nodes running on Windows server 2008 R2 Ent. Edn.

Now we need to install another SQL instance on this cluster. So what are the prerequisites apart from new IP address? Do we need shared disks or can the existing disks can be utilized?

I haven't performed this before and so have confusion about prerequisites; please bear with me.

Here's forum post on this topic:

Basically each cluster group has it's exclusive resources.

If you look at the existing cluster group you'll need the same resources separately (i.e. IP, name, disk etc). It used to need it's own MSDTC I think.

I vaguely remember cluster shared disks when I migrated from windows 2003 MSCS to 2008 R2 many years ago... if it's not already a shared disk you'll need to use different ones.. I think there was limitations on shared disks but not sure... my view was each cluster group should have their own resources.
