A friend of a friend owns a shop and keeps their sales data on a small SQL database. Recently a disgruntled employee deleted the mdfs to hide some sharp practices. They do not have a backup. 😀
They have managed to recover the physical file but for some reason SQL Server cannot recognize the file so it cannot be mounted. What are their options for recovering the data?

Restore from their last good backup. 😀
Without a backup, pretty close to no options. I can't recall ever having seen a deleted database file recovered and be useful.
What's the exact error they're getting and what exactly are they trying to do?
Let's hope they have their sales data on paper and can re-enter.
