System upgrade and final copy of Prod db over earlier testing version on cut-over day

  • Large scale ERP system that maintains our biz. We are upgrading version and have new iron for the new SQL server.

Made the instances back in Oct. and have gone through a few dry runs to verify what might go wrong. When I restore the Prod-OldVer over the Prod-NewVer my users have a different SID. What scripts are there to pull all the old users from the db-security itself and keep them in MSDB? Will the mappings that were made in MSDB still be in effect when the new version of the db for upgrade comes in? I was just removing all of the older users from the db and then re-establishing a clean mapping manually.

Trying to avoid manual process here!

There are many different users on NEW box compared to old box because as I set up new instances other consultants were moving data and installing software they need. My time cost was much cheaper than theirs so I manually made the few "current" users we needed. Thus SID on old box is different than SID on new box for us power users.

    TIA
