Can anybody advise on what is considered 'acceptable' range of values for disc read latency on an oltp system for mdf and ndf data files. I've heard conflicting opinions of values anything above 10ms is considered bad, then I've also heard that values upto 100ms are ok.
Using monitoring software, should I only be concerned if I see sustained values for say 50ms ?

Generally, you prefer 10ms or less, although up to 20ms is ok. Anything over that is poor and progressively getting worse, of course.
Again, in general, 100ms is not acceptable, but any given specific situation could have different expectations of performance and what is acceptable.
