SSMS - Databases are not Visible

  • Hi Team,

After connecting SSMS 'Databases, Security, Server Objects, Management' folders are not showing in the object explorer,

again i need to connect to sql server with login credentials then only above folders are showing.

Is there any configuration required to display the above folder automatically once login to SSMS.

    Please suggest...

  • You will be only be able to see objects you have any permissions on. Ask your administrator to grant you the permissions that you need.

Not necessarily. You can see databases where you don't have any permissions on it.

Need an answer? No, you need a question

  • On re-reading, I'm not sure that's what he's asking, anyway. Does he want to know how to have the folders automatically expanded when SSMS opens?

    Yes John Exactly,

I've all the rights, but when i open sql server (SSMS), all the folders should be displayed (without expand).

There is nothing to display until you connect to a server.

What are you expecting to see under "Databases" or "Server Objects" if you have not connected to a server?

  • Hi Team,

    am writing in-detail,

Step 1: opening sql server > Start > Programs > Micro soft sql server > SSMS

Step 2 : Connecting to Database engine by Login and Password.

Step 3: SSMS is opening, with Object Exploter (left side - Vertical Window), and a blank query window 'sqlquery1.sql' is opening in right pane.

My query is : am able to see object explorer but, instance name and databases are not showing in the object explorer.

to get the instance name and databases, i need to again click on connect button, then select Database engine and login again with my credentials.

WHY INSTANCE NAME AND DATABASES ARE NOT SHOWING AFTER FIRST LOGIN,

    HOPE U UNDERSTAND BETTER NOW...

    Yes, I understand now.

Your SSMS options allows you to open Object Explorer and a New Query at start-up. You probably have it set to open just New Query.
