The permissions granted to user 'server\username' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

  • Trying to copy our Production Report Services over to a new machine. Really know almost nothing about it. Copied the DB over, configured the server, but when I try to hit the ReportServices URL I get the above error. How can I go about getting around this?

  • Can you detail the step by step process you performed?

Did you backup and restore the encryption keys?

We had an existing ReportServices set up on one server that we needed to move off. Somebody had installed a version of ReportServices previously on the server we were moving to, so I backed up the SQL database and restored it over that existing install. I then deleted the encrypt key on the new machine, set it up with identical information as the old production machine (IPs changed but the aliases are the same). Backed up the new key, and then tried the links. The Report Manager URL works, so I went in there and added the account I was using in as a Role. But the Web Services URL gives me the above error about not having rights. I thought it might be a SQL permission issue, so I went into SQL and made sure it had full access to the ReportServices DB, but that didn't seem to help. This is my first time setting up RS though, so I must be missing something as I have no access to that URL.

  • Ok looking at the Event Viewer I see it is trying to use the anonymous IIS account from the web server to access the folder and doesn't have rights. Any thoughts on how to get around that?
