Is the sql seeing a network latency issue?‏

  • Hi,

Our SharePoint 2010 farm, with the SQL 2008(active/passive) on Windows is a 2 node cluster using the SAN storage.

On the sql server, i opened up task manager and navigated to Performance -> Resource Monitor -> Network -> TCP Connections

In there I can find a lot of sqlservr.exe images(processes) running and connected to different remote addresses. Each of these typically has a Latency(ms) of 220. Just on the same lines, i noticed yet another process named svchost.exe(termsvcs) having a latency(ms) of 380. The adjacent column Total(B/sec) is typically of the order of less than 50.

Now, iam wondering if these sqlservr.exe latency(ms) values of 220, are ideal or is it way too high? Is it normal to have such values for SQL Server connected to SharePoint farms. I pinged those remote IP address(they are the web front ends) at OS level which shows latency of only 1ms.

I also checked the disk latency(IO) , and that are pretty neat and well below 50, so it shouldnt be a SAN related DIsk IO latency issue.

Is the sql having some sort of network bottleneck? If so, How do i get to the bottom of it? Is there any specific network configuration setting for sqlserver 2008 on WIndows 2008 R2 ?

How about IIS on the remote host(SharePoint web front end). Will that require any network tweaking?

    Thanks,Jai
