Transaction Log backup

  • In Management Studio, in SQL 2008 TLog backup Maintenance plan creation - Back up the tail of the log, and leave the database in the restoring state is there. IMHO, this is checked when we need to take tail log backup, in case of a issue where we would need point intime restore of the database viz when restoring the same database which we are backing up. IS this correct?

  • Hello Bala,

Tail log backups are only needed in case of a Disaster Recovery scenerio (Point in time recovery is needed). One should not take taillog backup in normal routine.

  • arunyadav, thanks for the confirmation.
