Mirror did not swap

  • Dear all,

Could you please help me in understanding this issue that happened to me last week.

I have the following configuration HW cisco server, mirror (one with all principal db, two sites) with witness, OS win 2008 64, SQL 2008, 4 instances.

Master, temp, and user DB’s located on SAN “netapp” connected with ISCSI.

Network and iscsi connection went fully down on the principal site .

The DB’s did not swap, and for 2 of the 4 instance SQL service stopped. (I guess to the instance in use at the moment)

    Thanks for your help.

  • Where are the witness servers? In the site with the principal or the site with the mirror? If the site with the principal, then I would guess that the mirror could talk to neither the principal nor the mirror and therefore could not form quorum to come online. If the mirror can't conenct to either one, there is no way for it to know if both principal and mirror are down or if it has simply lost network connectivity on its end.
