Is there a way in sql server 2000 to determine if a user is part of an nt group that is defined in sql security? any kind of system stored proc or t-sql command that could accomplish this?
Any ideas would be great!

Don't know what you are exactly looking for.
Here is code that i use to determine if the user belongs to a NTGroup.
Use Master
select isntuser, isntgroup ,[name],loginname
from syslogins

Try this:
exec master..xp_logininfo N'builtin\administrators', N'members'
