Can SSRS 2019 and SQL Server 2019 access a 2012 SQL Service database

  • Hello -

I have a 2012 production SQL Server database.  I do not like the 2012 SSRS interface; i.e., sub reports can be clicked on individually, giving an error message.

Can I install SQL Server 2019 and SSRS 2019 and access the 2012 production database?  If so, how?

I am using stored procedures for data that exist in the 2012 database.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

  • Yes - you can use SSRS 2019 and connect to your 2012 instance as well as any other instance in your domain.  Create a new server, install the database engine and SSRS components - and configure as needed.

Deploy your reports that use a connection to the 2012 instance and they will work just fine.

  • We don't have SQL server 2019 but if you are accessing data from SQL server 2019 it should be backward compatible.  Using linked server to access data from one server to the other should work.

  • Thank you!  How do I mark this as answer too?
