Biography
Im not sure how senior a database architect I am,but I have been using Microsoft SQL Server since 1991. I thought that I had used it since its inception as a product, but met a gentlemen in 2000 at Doubleclick.com that had used it since it was an Ashton-Tate product (anybody remember Ashton-Tate?), so he had a few years on me. I started administering SQL Server v4.2 running on OS/2 v1.3 (slight shudder). Since then I have worked extensively with the following versions: - 4.2 on OS/2 v2.1 - 4.2 on NT 3.1 and NT 3.51 - 6.0 on NT 3.51 - 6.5 on NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 Server (Not recommended) - 7.0 on NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server - SQL Server 2000 Beta 2 on Windows 2000 Server - SQL Server 2000 Personal, Standard and Enterprise on Windows 2000 (Pro and Server) and Windows 2003 - SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 on Windows 2000 Server I am not a guru, an expert, or THE SQL Server guy. I do have lots of experience and strive to develop good solid solutions. I have had a fair amount of success and like to think I can contribute something useful back to the community. My background is I have been working with computers since I was about 12. My first career job in this industry was with network administration where I became the local DBA by default. I have also spent lots of time administering Netware and NT networks, developing software, managing smaller IT groups, making lots of coffee, ordering pizza for late nights, etc., etc. For those of you interested (or really bored), you can check out my resume. I was awarded SQL Server MVP status in 2008. I also maintain a personal website with lots of misc stuff at http://www.dkranch.net.
