[SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3202)

  • Hi friends,

The backup job which is running fine from past six months suddenly started failing giving the following error:

    Message

Executed as user:. Write on "Location" failed: 33(The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.) [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3202) BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013). The step failed.

The error says portion of file has been locked. I have check all SQL logs nothing was there, I checked and found there are no LOCKS as well. Even I tried running the job after sometime but no luck 🙁 .

The job was failing form last 3 days I'm unable to find the reason.

Can anyone help me in fixing this issue ASAP.

  • Are you able to complete backup process manually? and also try system restart.

  • I'm not able to backup manually also.

Can't restart as its a production server.

  • Try to identify process that is using your file. You may use any utility like task manager or process explorer.

  • As I mentioned above I have checked the current activities and didn't find any processes using that file.Even Task manager also didn't help.
