ODBC Connection

  • When trying to create an ODBC connection by selecting SQL Server driver, the following error is being displayed:

    Connection failed:

    SQL State '01000'

    SQL Server Error: 2

[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver],[Shared Memory]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).

    Connection failed:

    SQL State '08001'

    SQL Server Error: 17

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared Memory] Sql Server does not exist or access denied.

    The following services are started:

    SQL Server ($InstanceName)

    SQL Server Browser

There seem to be no security restrictions on the user because it can be used to query tables from the SQL Management Studio and by the application which uses the logon.

SQL Server 2005 Express running on a Virtual PC 2007 Virtual Machine.

Is it possibly an issue with the ODBC driver? Any ideas?
