litespeed restore

  • we have db backup file(litespeed backup file).

Litespeed is not installed in the server.

we need a command to restore the litespeed backup file.

  • we are looking to restore the litespeed backup without installing litespeed in the server.

  • Go on to the Quest website and do a search. There's a utility that you can use to turn a LiteSpeed backup file into a set of native files. It's on any server that has LiteSpeed installed on it. If, as you say, you don't have such a server, you may still be able to download the utility for free, but I don't know that for sure.

  • You can either use the extract utility - which will convert the litespeed backup file into native files. However, the files will no longer be compressed and it could take up a very large amount of space. Not to mention the fact that you then have to perform a restore using all files that were extracted.

You can install Litespeed without a license - and it will be a fully functional trial edition. Once the trial edition time is up - the installation is then considered a restore only installation. In other words, you can use it to restore from litespeed backups - but you cannot use it to create backups.

Unless this is a one time operation - and you can afford the disk space - I would recommend installing Litespeed and using it to perform the restore.

    ???

Is the db originally from another system that had litespeed? If not how did the backup get created in the first place?

    I imagine your options are:

    - install litespeed temporarily in order to use the backup for a restore

    - get with the DBA for the system that produced the litespeed backup and ask for a native SQL Server backup

  • my requirement is to restore the litespeed backup without using litespeed extractor also...

    is there a way ?

  • i mean that i don't want to use Extractor utility ...

  • If you can't use the utility and you don't want to use the extracter, then it's all over. What did you expect?

Only option is what a previous poster allready mentioned: ask the creator of the backup to create a native SQL backup.

  • Perhaps there is a way to run Litespeed on Server'A' to restore the database to server'B' ??

I think Litespeed customer support might give you the best answer, since versions and enhancements change and they would be the most knowledgeable.

  • unless the backup was created as a self extracting archive its not going to be possible without

    • using the litepseed extract utility
    • installing litespeed to the target server

Depending on the version of Litespeed that created the backup file you may be able to use the Litespeed recast utility to turn a compressed litespeed backup into a compressed self extracting archive, you will then be able to run this directly on your target server without installing any software, etc.
